We had an earthquake at 8:05pm!
I got really scared.. thinking about the Loma Pretia one in '89 and what it did.
(CBS 5 / AP / BCN) SAN JOSE A magnitude 5.6 earthquake - the strongest to occur since the infamous 1989 Loma Prieta quake - shook much of the San Francisco Bay Area for about a minute on Tuesday night. There were reports of moderate damage in the South Bay, but no serious injuries.
The U.S. Geological Survey said the quake hit at approximately 8:04 p.m. and was felt widely throughout Northern California, rattling homes and nerves.

Girls Night Out
The other night, I was invited out for a night with "the girls." I told my husband that I would be home by midnight. "I promise," were my last words.
The hours passed and the margaritas went down way too easily and around 3 a.m. we piled into a cab and headed to our respective homes, quite inebriated.
Just as I walked through the door, the cuckoo clock in the hall started up and cuckooed 3 times!
Realizing that my husband would probably wake up to this, I quickly cuckooed another 9 times. I was quit pleased with myself for coming up with such a quick witted solution to cover up my tardiness. Even with my impaired judgment, I could count 3 cuckoos plus 9 cuckoos equaled 12 cuckoos!
The next morning, my husband asked me what time I got in, and confidently, I replied, "Midnight...like I promised." He didn't even raise and eyebrow and went on reading the morning paper! Phew! Got away with that one!
After a moment, he then replied, "I think we might need a new cuckoo clock."
A bit nervously, I asked him why, to which he responded:
"Well, last night our clock cuckooed 3 times, then said, 'Oh, crap,' cuckooed 4 more times, cleared it's throat, cuckooed another 3 times, giggled, cuckooed twice more, then tripped over the coffee table and farted."

Car Troubles
An blond was driving home on the freeway after work when she was hit by a hailstorm that left her car completely dented all over. She decided to go to a body shop and asked the owner how much he would charge to remove the dents. Seeing that she was a blond, he winked at his partner, and told her it wouldn't cost anything if she followed his instructions carefully.
She drove home and when her blond roommate came out of the house she found her friend sitting on the ground at the back of the car blowing really hard in the tail pipe.
"What on earth are you doing" she asked.
Her friend looking up with big smile and a black ring around her mouth said "The man at the body shop told me that I could save a lot of money on repair work if I blew really hard into the tail pipe. he said that all the dents would pop out"
"Duhhh" said her friend, "but first you have to roll up all the windows!!!"

Falling Down
Hurts!
Chasing after our "escapeeee's on the loose" cats this morning!
They all ran out the door on Andrew & I.
Dusty didn't get very far Andrew grabed him...Chunk ran up the tree I got him gave him to Andrew to put in the house. Darla ran up the tree trunk half way...and then decided to run behind the garage.. as I ran after her... apparenlty there was a tomatoe cage back there that I didn't notice! I got my foot stuck in it all tangled up in it, I did a body slam into the fence and a full roll.
Ouch...

The Bathtub Test
It doesn't hurt to take a hard look at yourself from time to time, and this should help get you started:
During a visit to the mental asylum, a visitor asked the Director what the criterion was which defined whether or not a patient should be institutionalized.
"Well," said the Director, "we fill up a bathtub, then we offer a teaspoon,a teacup and a bucket to the patient and ask him or her to empty the bathtub."
"Oh, I understand," said the visitor. "A normal person would use the bucket because it's bigger than the spoon or the teacup."
"No." said the Director, "A normal person would pull the plug. Do you want a bed near the window?"

Corn Quotes
"It is not elegant to gnaw Indian corn. The kernels should be scored with a knife, scraped off into the plate, and then eaten with a fork. Ladies should be particularly careful how they manage so ticklish a dainty, lest the exhibition rub off a little desirable romance."Charles Day, 1844
"...corn provided infant America with a backbone while it was developing the use of its legs. America was growing, quite literally, up the cornstalk."Dorothy Giles, 'Singing Valleys: The Story of Corn'
"The greatest drawback is the way in which it is necessary to eat it.....It looks awkward enough: but what is to be done? Surrendering such a vegetable from considerations of grace is not to be thought of."Harriet Martineau, an Englishwomen, on corn on the cob (1835).

Pumpkin Facts
99% of all pumpkins are sold for decorations. When Howard Dill of Ontario, Canada, known as the Pumpkin King, sent one of his championship pumpkins to the U.S. for a competition, customs officials called drug agents, not believing that there could be a 616 pound pumpkin in the crate.
Championship pumpkins today are over 800 pounds. These pumpkins grow 10 to 15 pounds per day!
Pumpkin halves were supposedly used as guides for haircuts in colonial New Haven, Connecticut, giving rise to the nickname 'pumpkinhead.'
Total U.S. pumpkin production in 2003 was 805 million pounds. Illinois, with a production of 326 million pounds, led the country. There also were big pumpkin patches in California (150 million pounds produced), Pennsylvania (117 million), New York (107 million) and Michigan (60 million). The value of all these pumpkins was $81 million.US Census Bureau, October, 2004

Roses
require special care in the fall. In early fall, suspend fertilization. Continuing to fertilize causes new growth that could be killed by winter's cold. After foliage drops, spray with fungicide, then cover plants with a minimum of 8" of loose, well-drained soil, mulch or compost. Prune canes back to 36" to prevent damage from winter winds.

Pumpkin Fun
After your pumpkins have formed fruit, there are some fun things to do while waiting for them to ripen. While the fruits are small, carve your childs name into the pumpkin. As the fruit grows the name will too. At harvest your childs´ name will be big enough for all to see! Some major garden centers carry scary face molds of plastic. You slip these on the young fruit, and it molds the face right into the pumpkin!

When September Ends
Summer has come and passed
The innocent can never last
wake me up when september ends
like my fathers come to pass
seven years has gone so fast
wake me up when september ends
here comes the rain again
falling from the stars
drenched in my pain again
becoming who we are
as my memory rests
but never forgets what I lost
wake me up when september ends

Disgusting & Disturbing News
It's not very often do we hear on the local news something like this. In Sacramento, CA a young man and his infant son were shot to death in their home. Someone actually shot the 7 month old baby in the head. This is the kind of stuff that actually outrages me. You got a problem with someone take it up with that person, shoot them?..hell no...shoot an innocent child...ummmm I don't think so...my god no!
This makes me want to vomit.

The Little Fox Theater
in Redwood City is absolutely the best place on the Peninsula to whet your musical appetite. From the latest in music to rock classics and everything in between, you'll appease your craving for live music at one of their great shows!
2209 Broadway, Redwood City, CA 94063
I took these pictures at one of the shows last year. Above the lead singer for the Led Zeppelin Tribute band Heartbreaker & below the Tribute band to Lynyrd Skynyrd, Saturday Night Special
I was really impressed and emotionally moved by "BOTH" of these tribute bands.
I almost started to cry when the Lynard Skynard Band sang Free Bird..I got the chills. That song was dedicated to my Aunt Noelle who passed away back in 1983. It was her favorite song.
Then when Heartbreaker band came out, it felt and sounded like the real thing. The Robert Plant wanna be, not only sounded like him, but that whole group played them as well. I laughed everytime he flicked his hair outta his face just as plant used to do, and all the crazy little moves he'd make.
For anyone who is/or was a big Led Zepplin fan, go check these guys out, It's worth it!

Chocolate Chunk
Here is my favorite chocolate cookie recipe.
3/4 Butter, softened
1/2 C Confectioners (powered) sugar
1 C Flour
3/4 of a bag of Nestle's "real semi-sweet" Chocolate chunks
In mixing bowl cream butter and sugar. Gradually adding the flour. Stir in the chocolate pieces.
Place a tabelspoon size cookie dough kinda molding it into a ball on an ungreased cookie sheet, about 2 inches apart or so.
Bake at 350 for 10-12 mintues.
I normally cook them until I barely see them browning on the bottoms of the cookies. I take them out of the oven but leave them on the cookie sheet for a minute or two, then I slide them off onto a wire rack. Being very careful not to make them fall apart. If they feel like they will fall apart leave them on the hot cookie sheet until they harden a bit.
Enjoy!

God Has Kept Me Here For A Reason
I survived because He has a plan for me. All my bad relationships, the bad credit, the repossessions, the death of my loved ones, the back stabbing from my friends, the negative thoughts, or the lack of support; I made itbecause I am blessed! I release and let go of all past hurts, misunderstandings and grudges because I am blessed! I recognize them as the illusions they are, for God is all there is. All else is a lie!Now give yourself a hug, wipe your tears and walk in victory!!!!!!!! Ilove you, but more appropriately God loves you BEST! Be blessed andknow that you are at one with THE SPIRIT OF THE LIVING GOD!And may the Lord keep watch between you and me when we are away fromeach other. Genesis 31:49. Amen!

Favorite Fall Plants
Annuals When days shorten and nights get cool, these plants thrive.Arctotis: Bright, daisylike flowers, silvery foliage, and a neat habit distinguish this plant; also try Osteospermum -- it is similar but has rounded petals and a wider palette.
Cabbage, chard, kale, and kohlrabi: These intriguing, richly textured vegetables range from blue-gray to pink and purple.
Cardoon: This artichoke relative's large, silvery-blue foliage makes a pretty accent.
Perennials Mix these with annuals; they can be replanted in the border before the ground freezes.
Ajuga: This slow-to-spread ground cover is a surprising container plant; 'Chocolate Chip' has mounds of shiny purple foliage.
Ferns: Choose evergreen or semievergreen varieties of these shade lovers, such as leather wood, Japanese holly, or Christmas.
Grasses: There are grasses to suit any style: Festuca glauca 'Elijah Blue' has spiky mounds; Carex testacea boasts burnt-orange foliage.
Heuchera: Colorful foliage on these shade plants stays dense in fall; try 'Plum Pudding.'
Ivy: Consider yellow 'Gold Heart,' gray-green 'Pedata,' or gold-and-green 'Golden Ingot.'
Sedum: Masses of colorful, star-shaped flowers characterize this plant.
Woody Plants Keep these in pots year-round or replant in the garden.
Dwarf conifers: These lend soft texture. Cryptomeria japonica 'Compressa' has rounded gray foliage that turns golden in fall; chamaecyparis is deliciously fragrant.
Japanese maple: This tree has many cultivars: Its fall foliage varies from burgundy to red. Look for Acer palmatum 'Sharp's Pygmy.'
Red osier dogwood: Stems on red- and yellow-twig dogwoods are most vivid in fall.
Spiraea: Profuse spring blooms give way to red, orange, and yellow leaves in autumn.

Fall & Winter Gardening
Many people see the fall and winter as a time to close down the garden and wait until the spring to start up gardening activities again. However, there are plenty of things you can be doing through the fall and winter months to continue enjoying the pleasures of gardening.
Fall and early winter is a great time to plant bulbs. Bulbs can often be the first flowers to bloom in late winter and early spring. Some of the best bulbs for planting in the fall and winter include daffodils, day lilies, iris, tulips, and ranunculus. Get out and get your hands dirty planting bulbs so that you’ll be rewarded with color in the spring!

Inner Peace
Dr. Phil proclaimed, "The way to achieve inner peace is to finish all
the things you have started and never finished."
So, I looked around my house to see all the things I started and
hadn't finished, and before leaving the house this morning, I finished off
a bottle of Merlot, a bottle of Zinfandel, a bottle of Bailey's Irish
Cream, a bottle of Kalhua, a package of Oreos, the remainder of my old
Prozac prescription, the rest of the cheesecake, some Doritos and a box
of chocolates.
You have no idea how freaking good I feel right now.

Memorial
The most controversial hillsides in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Located on Deer Hill Road overlooking the Lafayette BART Station and Highway 24.
The number 3780 along with the cross's mark the deaths of all the fallen solder's in Iraq.
Personally, I do not see anything wrong with it.
It's a statement of fact.
Could there be more laying beneath the hillside some think is an "eyesore", "graveyard of some sort" "depressing" or that it could potentially cause an accident
if someone is looking at it and not paying attention to the road, and sorry to interrupt your quiet perfect little neighborhood theory, Oh I'm sure there is.
What more could be the reasons people want to see it removed?
I understand about the sacrifices our hero's have made.
Some families feel as if these solders go on unnoticed, abandoned, lack recognition & attention.
How can we offer more of what these families need, besides being able to return their loved one?
I'm a very sensitive human being a realist of sort. Have I thought about loosing a child to war? Yes.
As hard as it would be to cope I couldn't even imagine, I would have to never lose sight of "how & why" they died.
This world has "hero's" & "cowards"..I'd be proud my child choose the 1st and being able to serve for this country's existant should make any parent proud forever.
One father was upset that the organizer did not get permission to put his
deceased sons name on a cross. He removed the name, but left the cross.
Freedom isn't free! If you don't believe me, go read your history books.
I truly support our men and woman of the armed forces
who obviously risk and lose their lives to protect the lives of many and our beautiful country.

Try To Remember
Try to remember the kind of September
When life was slow and oh so mellow
Try to remember the kind of September
When grass was green and grain so yellow
Try to remember the kind of September
When you were a young and a callow fellow
Try to remember and if you remember
Then follow--follow, oh-oh

Weird News
Man Dies After Three Days Online
BEIJING (Sept. 17) - A man in southern China appears to have died of exhaustion after a three-day Internet gaming binge , state media said Monday.
The 30-year-old man fainted at a cybercafe in the city of Guangzhou on Saturday afternoon after he ha been playing games online for three days, the Beijing News reported.
Paramedics tried to revive him but failed and he was declared dead at the cafe, it said. The paper said that he may have died from exhaustion brought on by too many hours on the Internet.
The report did not say what the man, whose name was not given, was playing.
The report said that about 100 other Web surfers "left the cafe in fear after witnessing the man's death."
China has 140 million Internet users, second only to the United States. It is one of the world's biggest markets for online games, with tens of millions of players, many of whom hunker down for hours in front of PCs in public Internet cafes.
Several cities have clinics to treat what psychiatrists have dubbed "Internet addiction" in users, many of them children and teenagers, who play online games or surf the Web for days at a time.

Andrew was not feeling well at school today.
I had to go pick him up. Last year he missed a lot of school.
I thought perhaps it was due to over crowding and eating cafeteria food.
Figures school starts back up and he's sick again!
He made the football team again this year and is very upset
that he is going to miss out on practice!
